The international APAD conference "Engaging Anthropology for Development and Social Change" took place in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, 20-23 January 2010. The conference venue was Azalaï Hôtel Indépendance in the centre of Ouaga. The conference programme was very rich with more than 85 papers in some 25 plenary sessions and workshops. A round-table entitled At the Crossroads of Social Sciences Research and Development Policy was held with eight participants. Also, a networking session with some fifteen presentations on training and grants opportunities for young researchers was organised.

The conference welcomed more than 200 participants, including some 60 students from the universities of Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso. The APAD conference was indeed a welcome opportunity to promote anthropology, both as an academic discipline and as a profession, engaged in social change and development action.

APAD 2010 OUAGA was organised under the auspices of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Joseph Paré with the active participation of Ouagadougou University, Bobo-Dioulasso Polytechnical University and the National Centre for Scientific and Technological Research, CNSRT).

The conference was generously funded by several donors and institutions: the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), the Danish International Development Agency, the Vlaamse Interuniversitaire Raad (VLIR), Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD), Uppsala Universitet et Montréal University.

APAD 2010 Ouaga

Le colloque international de l'APAD sur Engager l'anthropologie pour le développement et le changement social a eu lieu à Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso du 20 au 23 janvier 2010. Le lieu du colloque était Azalaï Hôtel Indépendance au centre de Ouaga. Le programme du colloque a été très riche avec plus de 85 communications dans 25 sessions plénières et ateliers. Une table-ronde intitulée Aux carrefours de la recherche en sciences sociales et des politiques de développement a été animée par 8 participants. En outre une session de réseautage avec une quinzaine de présentations relatives à des formations et des opportunités de bourses en sciences sociales a eu lieu au cours du colloque.

Le colloque a reçu plus de 200 participants d'une vingtaine de pays africains et européens et aussi environ 60 étudiants des universités de Ouagadougou et de Bobo-Dioulasso. Le colloque était une opportunité importante de promouvoir l'anthropologie en tant que discipline académique et profession engagées dans le changement social et les actions de développement.

APAD 2010 OUAGA a été parrainé par le Ministre des Enseignements secondaire, supérieur et de la Recherche Scientifique, le professeur Monsieur Joseph Paré avec la participation active de l'Université de Ouagadougou, de l'Université polytechnique de Bobo-Dioulasso et du Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique et Technologique (CNRST).

Le colloque a été généreusement financé par plusieurs bailleurs de fonds et institutions de recherche : l'Agence suédoise pour la coopération au développement international (Asdi), l'Agence danoise pour le développement international (DANIDA), Vlaamse Interuniversitaire Raad (VLIR), Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD), l'université d'Uppsala et l'université de Montréal.
